Revised February 2013

Question:

How much does it cost to run a ceiling fan? This is a ceiling fan/light combination, but I would like the fan portion figured out.

Answer:

Look at the nameplate data to see the watts. Look at your power bill to find the cost per KW. If the fan is a 75 watt load, and you operate your fan for 100 hours per year, and, assuming your utility charges 12 cents per kWh, the cost is:

.075 KW X 100 hrs X $.05/kWh = 90 cents
