Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory is providing solutions to scientific problems, and responding to the need to be "GREEN!"
We are looking for a Principal Research Associate or Staff Research Associate to join our Building Technologies team, to support in the development of the next generation of building energy modeling, simulation and analysis tools for the design and operation of low energy buildings.
The Person in this role will: • Develop and implement software in building energy and controls simulation programs to support the design and operation of Net Zero Energy Buildings. • Link domain-specific simulation programs to each other to support rapid prototyping and integrated whole-system level analysis. • Conduct simulation-based studies to assess the benefits of integrated building energy and control systems. • Provide user-support by writing program documentation, by providing e-mail support and by collaborating with architectural engineering firms on specific projects. • Preferably assist in publishing the Simulation Research Group Newsletter.
Qualifications
The Principal Research Associate will: • Preferably possess a Masters degree in mechanical engineering, computer science, architectural engineering or a related building science field, with 3-6 years experience in independent design, processing and analysis of data. However, equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. • Have substantial knowledge of heat transfer, controls and development of object-oriented programs. • Have experience in object-oriented programming, preferably in C++ and Java. • Have experience using whole building energy analysis programs (such as EnergyPlus, DOE-2, ESP) and general purpose system simulation programs (Modelica, TRNSYS, Simulink, LabVIEW). • Have good written communication and presentation skills.
The Staff Research Associate will: • Preferably possess a Masters degree with substantial (six or more years) experience working under limited supervision, or a Ph.D. degree with several years of post-Doctoral experience preferred. However, equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. • Have advanced knowledge of heat transfer, controls and development object-oriented programs. • Have experience in object-oriented programming, preferably in C++ and Java. • Have experience using whole building energy analysis programs (such as EnergyPlus, DOE-2, ESP) and general purpose system simulation programs (Modelica, TRNSYS, Simulink, LabVIEW). • Have good written communication and presentation skills. • Have experience using or developing building energy simulation programs or controls design software.
Desired Traits • Experience in the building delivery process and in building operations. • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse technical partners. • General knowledge of industry practices and relevant professional societies.
