We are currently seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our Environmental Energy Technologies Division. As a part of the Energy Analysis Department, the Senior Research Associate will perform research assignments such as the collection and processing of data, along with preliminary analysis of clean energy policies at the state and national level. These studies often contribute to policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and produce economic benefits on a large scale. We seek a career-minded team player with strong analytical, research and writing experience and skills.
As a Senior Research Associate you will: • Model medium and long term technical, economic and achievable greenhouse gas reduction potentials in California for a wide variety of technologies, both at the end use and energy supply sector levels. • Develop economic scenario forecasts, including preliminary analysis of macro-economic drivers for sector-level energy demand. • Develop cost models for emission reductions, including integrated cost curves for energy supply and demand options. • Develop technology and behavior scenario options for meeting emissions targets. • Perform preliminary analysis of low-carbon technologies in terms of technological capability, cost, scalability, and any key barriers. • Build and manage a large database of best practices in emerging energy efficiency and energy supply technologies, including cost data, energy demand, savings potentials, and state-wide economic projections. • Identify and analyze policies and policy instruments that best support greenhouse gas reduction goals. • Work closely with energy experts and lab technical staff to include and develop most up-to-date information and analysis. • Periodically present scenario/modeling results to project sponsors and document project progress/milestones.
Qualifications • Bachelor degree in engineering or physical sciences, and 2-5 years of relevant work experience. • Excellent written and communication skills. • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and develop comparative metrics. • Ability to move seamlessly from technology to policy to economic analysis. • Demonstrated ability to manage and organize large, complex spreadsheets. • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and compatibly with a team • Advanced degree, preferred. • Experience in economic/business analysis and/or modeling is preferred. • Experience in energy efficiency or renewable energy analysis and/or modeling is preferred.
