Costs and scheduling difficulties prompted (2012) the Commissioners of the Chelan County Public Utility District to withdraw from participation in a federal grant to extend the PUD’s existing fiber-optic system to more rural areas. Through board deliberations, meetings with customers, expert advice, and other resources, the Chelan County Public Utility District also examined and evaluated the more general issues of costs, benefits, and ways to create a sustainable fiber business.
