Summary |
|
The 110-MW DOE loan-funded Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Power Plant will have 10,000 large mirrors to focus sunlight at molten salt, which will circulate from the tower to a storage tank, where it will be used to produce steam from a boiler to generate electricity. Extra thermal energy will be stored in the molten salt and may be used for more power for up to ten hours, whether the sun is shining or not. NV Energy will buy the power through a Power Purchase Agreement with Solar Reserve, the company that is constructing the tower.
