Summary |
|
The Great River Elk River Resource Recovery Project made improvements in 2011 that reduced the unused waste being sent to landfills, increased the value of recyclable materials, and increased the power produced at the Elk River Energy Recovery Station plant. A primary change was a new ferrous metal clean-up system that increases the value of waste metal that is sorted out from the plant’s municipal solid waste fuel, and thus increases the revenue from recycling the metals. Reprocessing of the leftover waste has also been improved to the point where much of it can serve as fuel for the plant, as well.
