Summary
CPS Energy plans to buy low carbon power from a Summit Texas Clean Energy, LLC, plant that will use carbon capture technology. The integrated 400 MW gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant will have Siemens gasifiers and a high-hydrogen power generator. It is expected that the total amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere from this plant will be less than 10 percent of a conventional coal plant with similar energy output, and less than 25 percent of a high-efficiency natural gas-powered power plant. $450 million in funding from the DOE Clean Coal Power Initiative will help fund the plant.
